Aspirazioni Urbane Giusy Lauriola Mo.C.A Roma 5 - 26 giugno 2013 Il progetto Aspirazioni Urbane sembra una sorta di agenda quotidiana su cui l’artista appunta le immagini che la circondano.Protagonisti sono i viandanti urbani, filo d’Arianna dei suoi ultimi progetti, che nella visione del loro continuo pellegrinare apparentemente senza meta, si offrono metafora dell’esistenza. Mentre negli ultimi lavori predominavano immagini simboliche e monocromi, questa nuova percezione è sospesa, contemplata e colorata.In un’atmosfera surreale, ben evocata dall’uso abbinato della tecnica fotografica e pittorica, la persona comune s’immerge nel colore e perde l’anonimato.Cambiare colori e tonalità, invertire o modificare l’origine di un’immagine implica una posizione che rompe l’impatto realistico della fotografia per un nuovo codice interpretativo.Il quotidiano è rielaborato in una dimensione altra, a volte onirica e soprattutto extra-ordinaria:un corto circuito tra la realtà e l’interiorità dell’artista. In questa particolare atmosfera si scorgono ali.Ali di farfalla.Ali appoggiate sui viandanti i quali sembrano quasi non esserne coscienti, una rivisitazione della realtà di ogni giorno in forme e percorsi diversi.Le ali, come le nostre timide aspirazioni, quelle che non riconosciamo a volte neanche a noi stessi.Ancora fragili ali di farfalla, ma colorate e avvincenti.Come se i sogni, i desideri siano lì a farci l’occhiolino e noi li ignorassimo.I colori, che condiscono questo sogno reale, sono insieme alle ali, aspirazioni di sensazioni piacevoli, la luce o il riflesso del plexiglas, infine, il bisogno espresso di magia che non ci abbandona mai. Aggiunge la storica dell’arte Simonetta Cini:“In Giusy Lauriola è presente la poesia della ricerca, del dubbio critico.Non ama aggredire o graffiare polemicamente, rifiuta ogni violenza anche di giudizio:nella sua meditata realtà si muove con un lavoro attento privo di qualsiasi spavalderia.La soluzione da lei raggiunta è vigorosa e fresca allo stesso tempo, non lasciandosi ingannare da false apparenze.La sua inquietudine, se di inquietudine si tratta, è calda di umanità, pur rinunciando a qualsiasi compiacimento o indugio sentimentale.La solitudine, prima pensata, diviene concreta nella rappresentazione dei soggetti nella loro vita puramente occasionale;l’aria non è un orizzonte prestabilito a cui le figure dovranno adattarsi e intonarsi, ma è l’elemento stesso delle figure.Ciascuna delle sue opere è un mondo, né bello né brutto, né buono né cattivo.Le sue figure non finiscono dove finisce la pittura, continuano e vivono al di là della superficie dipinta, e forse erano già nate prima di essere dipinte, e questo perché nelle opere di Giusy Lauriola c’è, senza dubbio, un fiato romantico.”Ogni persona, ogni viandante, rappresenta una vita nella sua totalità e importanza che non possiamo cogliere nell’immagine fugace e sfuggente che i nostri occhi captano.L’artista attuando un’azione di sospensione rende la loro vita extra-ordinaria.La vitalità del quotidiano si trasforma in un riflesso anomalo e vertiginoso e diviene un nuovo sguardo sul mondo irrealmente reale.La salvezza dal banale nasce per l’artista dalla poesia del quotidiano, delle nostre vite che si colorano, a volte s’illuminano e si sdoppiano.Una terapia estetica che ci possa donare energia positiva, sempre necessaria. La fotografia cattura istanti di vita, da godersi con calma, e che sicuramente si dimenticherebbero.Non solo, ma la macchina fotografica coglie quel momento che l’occhio distratto può facilmente perdere.I viandanti diventano conoscenti.La pittura insegna invece la pazienza, la bellezza della manualità, della chimica dell’impasto, del colore che si forma, del tutto è possibile.Poi c’è il caso, saper giocare con il caso mentre si lavora è fondamentale, come saper cogliere il momento di fermarsi. Hanno partecipato al progetto anche le due attrici Diane Fleri, Francesca Inaudi e Daniele Orazi, Amministratore Delegato di Officine Artistiche, ritratti mentre camminano, viandanti della loro vita.L’artista crea nelle sue opere due strati, uno fotografico e l’altro pittorico, per immaginare un quadro profondo che simuli il movimento e superi la bidimensionalità.A complemento del progetto una serie di light box e un cubo illuminato.
Urban Expectations Giusy Lauriola Mo.C.A Rome 5 - 26 June 2013 The project Urban Expectations seems a kind of daily diary in which the artist notes the images which surround her.The protagonists are urban wayfarers, Adriane’s thread of her last projects, who in the vision of their everlasting wanderings, apparently with no goal, offer themselves as existential metaphors.While in the last projects symbolic images and monochromes prevailed, this new perception is suspended, contemplated and coloured in a surreal atmosphere, well evoked by the coordinated use of photographic and painting techniques. The common figure plunges into colour and leaves the anonymous. Changing colours and tone, inverting or modifying the origin of the image implies a position, which breaks the realistic impact of photography for a new interpretive code.Daily visions are elaborated in a new dimension, sometimes dreamlike and above all extra-ordinary:a short circuit between the artist’s reality and inner being. In this unsual atmosphere, we can glimpse wings. Butterfly wings. Wings leaned against the wanderers who seem nearly unconscious of them. A new vision of everyday realities in different forms and paths. Wings, as our timid aspirations, the ones we don’t even at times recognise in ourselves. Still, fragile butterfly wings, but coloured and engaging.As if dreams, desires were there, were winking at us and we were ignoring them. Colours, which flavour this real dream are together with wings, aspirations of delightful sensations, light or Plexiglas reflection.In the end, the need expressed by magic, which never abandons us. As the Art Historian Simonetta Cini adds: “In Giusy Lauriola we can find the poetry of research, the doubt of criticism.She refuses the violence present in an argument or a judgment.Her reflecting reality produces a work with a complete absence of arrogance. Her conclusions are strong and full of freshness at the same time, they are not false.There is a restless attitude, if we can speak of restless attitude, towards what is warm and human.At the same time she manages not to be sentimentalist or self referent. Solitude is imagined first, then represented in subjects and occasional situations of their lives;“air is not a moot horizon where the figures have to adapt and match”(scusa, ma questo non lo capisco) but air is part of these figures.Each one of her works of art is a universe, which we can not define good or bad, nice or ugly.Her figures go beyond the painting, they keep living beyond the what is painted, they might have been created even before they were painted because in Giusy Lauriola’s works of art there is definitely something romantic.” Each person, each wanderer represents a life in its totality and importance that we cannot catch in the cursory and fleeting image that our eyes absorb.The artist creating an action of suspension makes their lives extra-ordinary. The everyday vitality transforms itself into an anomalous and frenetic reflection and it becomes a new glimpse of the unreal real world. The safety from banality comes from the artist in the form of everyday poetry from our coloured lives, at times illuminated and split in two: an aesthetic therapy which can give a positive and necessary energy. Photography captures everyday moments of life, which can be relished calmly and which we will surely forget.The camera also catches moments that the distracted human eye can easily miss. Wanderers become acquaintances.Painting on the other hand teaches patience, the beauty of dexterity, of the chemical mixture, of the colour, which takes form:everything is possible. Furthermore, there is the chance that in art there is magic as in the origin of life.To be able to play with chance while working is fundamental, as is to be able to capture the moment to stop. Furthermore, the actresses Diane Fleri, Francesca Inaudi and Daniele Orazi, Managing Director of Officine Artistiche have also had a hand at her project portrayed while walking, wanderers of their lives.The artist creates two layers in her works, a photographic and a pictorial one in order to imagine a profound work which stimulates movement and surpasses the two dimensional aspect.The project is completed by a series of light boxes and a light cube.

Giusy Lauriola vive e lavora a Roma.Nel corso del suo percorso artistico ha indagato questioni pubbliche, come la guerra in Iraq, in maniera privata, sottolineando temi come l'indifferenza al dolore degli altri, i bisogni indotti e il potere della pubblicità.Come strumento di lavoro ha utilizzato la fotografia digitale rielaborata al computer e contaminata dalla pittura.Quasi per allontanare il dolore raccontato, dopo il lavoro sulla guerra, sposta l’attenzione sulla sua città - Roma - che interpreta attraverso visioni oniriche.Il progetto successivo è la ricerca del divino nel quotidiano:la lotta tra Illuminazione e Oscurità.Al ritorno da un viaggio in Burkina Faso nasce una visione frammentaria, simile a flash, che sintetizza souvenir di viaggio, momenti del presente e ricordi imprevisti.Il suo sguardo, nel frattempo, è profondamente cambiato.E’attratto dall’essenziale.Questo nuovo discorso in fieri coincide con il ritorno alla tecnica tradizionale della pittura, alla chimica dell’impasto, che appartengono al suo passato.La tecnica pittorica è arricchita da colate di resina e i nuovi lavori raccontano di ciò che l’artista vede, ascolta camminando per la città. Nel corso dell’ultimo periodo realizza lavori su due strati separati, uno fotografico e l’altro pittorico, per immaginare un quadro profondo che simuli il movimento e superi la bidimensionalità.Mentre negli ultimi progetti predominavano immagini simboliche e monocrome, la nuova percezione è sospesa, contemplata e colorata.In un’atmosfera surreale, ben evocata dall’uso abbinato della tecnica fotografica e pittorica, la persona comune, il viandante urbano, s’immerge nel colore perde l’anonimato. Giusy Lauriola lives and works in Rome.During her artistic career, she has investigated, in a private manner, public issues such as the Iraq war, underlining themes as the indifference to the suffering of others, manipulated needs or the power of publicity.As an instrument of her work she has chosen digital photography, manipulated on the computer and printed on industrial supports with painting.Moving away from the reporting of suffering, after her work on the war, she focuses her attention on her city – Rome – that she interprets with dream like visions.The next project is the work of the divine in the everyday images:the fight between Illumination and Obscurity.Coming back from a meaningful trip in Burkina Faso (Western Africa) a fragmentary vision was born; such as a flash, that synthesizes souvenirs, present moments and unexpected memories.Her vision has deeply changed, attracted by the essential.This new course coincides with her return to the traditional technique of painting, to the chemical blending, that is part of her past.The combination of traditional paintings techniques and her formula of resin create new works, which show the artist’s perception of feelings and about walking in the city.During the last period she realizes works on two layers in her works, a photografic and a pictorial one, in orfer to imagine a profound work which symulates movement and surpasses the two dimensional aspect.While, in her last projects symbolic and monochromatic images have prevailed, her new perception is suspended, contemplated and coloured.In a surreal atmosphere, well evoked by the coordinated use of photographic and painting technique, the common figure, the urban wanderer, plunge into colour leaves his anonymity.
